Plein Air Exhibition

  • Washburn Cultural Center 1 East Bayfield Street Washburn, WI, 54891 United States (map)

The Washburn Cultural Center’s Plein Air Exhibition will run the length of June and will accompany and expand upon the Inaugural Plein Air of Washburn (PAW) Festival held from June 8–11. This un-juried exhibition is an opportunity to publicly showcase the work of artists in the area who already practice working en plein air. Artist-submitted works will be exhibited alongside plein air works from the Cultural Center’s permanent collection and possibly works created during this year’s Festival.

For this exhibition, take a generous approach to defining “en plein air.” We trust participating artists will submit works that can be appropriately classified as plein air works, but we are happy to accept:

  • Finished works entirely created en plein air.

  • Partially completed/unfinished works entirely created en plein air in order show artists’ artistic processes and the limited time under which plein air works are made.

  • Finished works primarily created en plein air but lightly completed in-studio.

  • Quick studies/preparatory work entirely created en plein air in order to show artists’ artistic processes. (If you are interested in exhibiting a work created entirely in-studio for which you have readily apparent accompanying plein air studies/prep work, please email images of the studies/prep work and final artwork to Cultural Center directly for approval.)
